It's been too long...

It's been 7 years since I last wrote here... can you believe it? 7 years!

I wonder if people still read blogs nowadays... hmmm...

In the last 7 years, I believe people have moved to other social media platforms. Blogs may not be relevant anymore. Nowadays, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok have taken over. Not forgetting Facebook and some other apps that I know nothing about.

So, here I am, contemplating whether I should start writing here again. I've failed at so many attempts before this. The willpower is so weak, the heart is tired, the brain is cloudy, and the ideas are blocked. The words are all jumbled up in my mind and there is no excitement.

The state of heart & mind... have been like this for a longggg time.

But now, somehow the writer in me is getting restless. It had stayed dormant for so long... tied up in a dimly lit room, surrounded by thick tall walls. It's time for it to be free, to come out and face the world. Suddenly, the writer remembers the happiness of writing.

There are so many things that have been left unsaid... It's time to clear out all the spider webs in this room.

I'll start writing again. I will fight the pressure to stay under my 'coconut shell'. It doesn't matter if no one reads this blog, it only matters that I keep on writing. There is joy in written words, and I hope to spread that joy.

I'll see y'all in my next post. Stay tuned!

Would I Survive a Bear Attack?

I watched this program on NatGeo last week, 'So You Think You'd Survive?' What would you do when faced with a certain situation & they provided 3 options for you to choose.

Its fun, like taking a personality quiz, testing my knowledge on life. So, I happily played along.
Then, one situation was presented.

What would you do when you're confronted by a black bear?

Looking at the options given, I know I had to go with C. Not because I'm a well trained black belt karate master or a kungfu shifu, but because I'm the worst at both running and climbing a tree. I run for like 100m and that's it. Climbing trees? Forget it... NO, thank you!

Therefore, I can only go with C... because I do have skills in making a lot of noises and I always imagined myself fighting like Bruce Lee with his one inch punch.. heheh...

With my unfit physical, I have to stand my ground and prepare to fight if I'm confronted by a black bear...

But, look at the correct answer!

Looks like my physical weakness is working to my advantage this time.. yeee haaaaa... Maybe I won't hurt the bear much, but the bear definitely will have sore ears.

So now you know what to do when confronted by a bear.

Enough rambling for today...
Hopefully this will be a good enough warm up for me after not writing for so long.

Take care y'alls.
Selamat Hari Raya AidilFitri! Maaf Zahir & Batin!

What do I get from Travelling?

A few years back, somebody made a remark to me about travelling, which I couldn't really comprehend at that time.

'There's nothing special about travelling. You visit the place, do some sightseeing, shopping, spend a lot of your money, it's tiring and then you come back home which you feel really happy to do.'

I really couldn't understand that.

Although my home is my favourite place in this whole wide world, I always felt happy to leave it for a while and go explore some other places.

But, since last year, I've been thinking about this... What do I get from all the travelling that I've done other than some temporary excitement and happiness? Have all my travelling made me a better person than I was before?

That's a very tough question to answer because if I'm the judge of myself, the answer to that question is 'not so much'. Maybe I'm being too hard on myself, but that's how I feel.

So maybe after this, I should plan things to do on my travel carefully and start evaluating whether I have learned something from my travelling and whether it has positively changed me.

Wish me luck!

Not all those who wander are lost...

Although, that was where she had been. Lost, not wandering...

2014 had been quite a testing year for her. She thought what happened last year did not have that much effect on her. But, losing a much beloved Father will leave a deep unexplained feeling inside anyone.

An independent, strong and adult daughter, is still a daughter. As much as she thinks that she's handling losing her father well, she apparently did not. Subliminally, without her knowledge, it did affect her.

Somehow, it left her struggling & wondering what is going wrong with her. Nothing interests her anymore. Her moods kept on plunging. She finally reached for help worrying that it will hit rock bottom. Aren't she glad that she did that?

So glad :)

She's back now. She thinks so... She can feel the energy and the excitement coming back into her. Bit by bit.

2015 has a new set of challenges for her. The big one served to her at the very early of the year. Even though the light at the end of the tunnel is still so very dim, she stays optimistic and hopeful.

She has little to worry about knowing that she has all the support and love from her incredible family and friends.

And for that, she is forever grateful.

"Be not sad (or afraid), surely Allah is with us."

Al-Fatihah - To my beloved Father, my Grandmother and the whole crews & passengers of flight MH370 who had all left us on the first week of March, 2014 (although I am still hopeful for MH370).

Al-Fatihah.

MH17 & MH370

Saddest news over and over again...

I was not so sad when MH370 went missing. Because I live with hope and with that, I know I shouldn't give up on MH370 until hard evidence is found. As far as I know, they crews & passengers are still alive and MH370 is hidden somewhere... I don't know where, but it is somewhere...

MH17... was shot down. All the crews & passengers are dead.
My tears cannot stop coming...

Sadness aside... The ridiculousness of what happened to MH370 and MH17 is hard to process.

Don't you smell how fishy this is?
This smell very, very fishy!

MH370 went missing... without a trace... in 2014! No radar can trace it? The pilot went silence? There is no shred of evidence of the aircraft crashes or anything... At least something. But, there is nothing!

MH17 was shot down in a war conflicted zone? The military mistaken a passenger aircraft for a military one? Weird... I know, s**t happens... But, this is one unbelievable s**t!

Because of all these fishiness, I'm leaning towards believing conspiracy theories.I don't know which one is the right theory, but in my heart, somebody somewhere is gaining a BIG advantage by doing this to my country and to my favorite airline.

Whoever they are, one day karma will get to them...
I hope that day will not be too far away...

Al-Fatihah to all passangers and crews of MH17...
My deepest condolence to their families, relatives and friends.

MH370... Our prayers are still with you.

Malaysia is being tested in a great way again...
Let us stay united in this time of tribulation.

Muslim Women & Hijab... A mighty challenge..

Lately, I saw a lot of comments in Facebook on the hijab of muslimat (muslim women). I agree with all the comments because they are all about the truth. But, I also acknowledge the challenges that we face, as muslim women in complying with the actual definition of hijab.

* Most of the captions in the images are in Malay... let me know if you need translation :)

What we naturally like, as women is as in the picture on the left while what is required from us is like the picture on the right.

So, this is where the challenges begin.
Where all the tests of our iman is put on us...
The tests which required all the strengths (of heart) that we have..

TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT.

As someone who has been up & down the stages 2-7 all my life (but most of it is at stage 5) and I have only been consistently staying at the stage 6-7 for the past 3-4 years, I can say that I understand these challenges.

We women like to look beautiful & stylish...
We also like to be praised for it, even though we sometimes deny this :)
But, this is the truth.
And this is also the reason why we have a lot of challenges in fulfilling the requirement of hijab.

Plus, there are so many female fashions out there that is not syariah compliant.
The fashions, they look beautiful, so stylish, so fashionable, so modern, so tempting...

and our weak heart always fell for it...

So, what can we do about this?
What can we do so that we comply with the requirement of hijab, but also look presentable?

First thing first, we do not want to be like what is captioned in the image below:

and please avoid the extremes...
  • Extremely tight (leggings, skinnies are definitely a no-no)
  • See through clothing (because it just defeat the purpose)
In this case, I guess what we need to learn first, is the actual definition of hijab.

The image below summarized the definition quite nicely (except we don't have to look like we're marching when we walk... just don't sway too much)

Then, find some of the examples out there... the examples of muslimat who dress up nicely & still syariah compliant :) We have a lot of professional muslimat to look up to...

All pretty & successful...

Whatever it is... moderation is the key.
Not too much, not too little...
Please also remember that, sloppy is not equal to moderate :P

We can do this you know... be syariah compliant.
All we need is the strength of the heart.
And we women are already a strong creation...
This should not be such a big challenge to us until we cannot improve ourselves even bit by bit.
Just put our heart into the determination to climb up the stages.
And...
Find the circle of friends who will support us with this cause :)

To those who are still looking for the strength to take on the first step of hijab, I hope the answer from Ustaz Azhar Idrus in the image below will open your heart.

We can do this! Lets beat these challenges together!

Speechless still climbing...
Pray for me.

As usual, please correct me whenever I am wrong...

Thank you! Love y'all! Muah mmmuahhhhh!!!

Egypt & The War on Democracy

Sad sad news I received today...

Source: Al-Jazeera --> http://www.aljazeera.com/news/middleeast/2013/07/20137319828176718.html
I can't say much... I'm not a politician nor a political observer... I hardly watch news to avoid breaking my heart. I'm more calm staying under my peaceful 'coconut shell'. Peeking out once in a while just to get some updates from the world around me... Then, when the news starting to break my heart again, I quickly get back under the coconut shell.

But, despite my once in a while peeking, all the news that I received of President Mohamed Morsi, are all good news. An Islamic leader from Ikhawanul Muslimin... an educated person, a president with a humble and sincere heart... so as his wife & children...

How come people refused to have this kind of person as their president?

This is sick!

What happened to Egypt today, reminded me of a documentary by John Pilger entitled 'The War on Democracy'. You have to watch this documentary.

JOHN PILGER's 'THE WAR ON DEMOCRACY'

The same thing has happened before to Hugo Chavez... but at that time, the people of Venezuela had gotten back the President that they elected via a democracy process, even after a coup.

To President Morsi, his families, all his cabinet members and the people of Egypt who had elected him, keep praying. Allah is always with those who are defending the truth.

And in the end, the truth will prevail.

Do not forget to pray for the safety & unity of all our fellow Muslims, where ever we all are.

Lagu 'Janji Ditepati'... nak komen sikitlah :)

*In Malay*
Siapa belum dengar lagu ni, boleh la click 'Play'. Kat link Youtube ni, ada liriknya sekali:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DG--QGXqnlM

Sedap jugak lagu ni. Catchy... Rasa macam nak 'shake my body' bila dengar... hihihiii... Beat dia best. Suka!

Tapi, bab lirik ni... adui la haiii... Especially part 'Kini masa balas budi' tu...

Errr... bukan tak bersyukur, bukan tak mengenang budi...

Cuma... bukankah semua yang dilakukan itu adalah atas sebab itulah sebenarnya tanggungjawab?

Budi yang ditabur, minta dibalas?

Hmmm...

Kita masih belum menguasai ilmu ikhlas...

Hari Kebangsaan...

Aceh's Earthquake & the LYNAS Project

Huh? What's up with this entry? What's the relationship between these two?

Aceh is so far away from the LYNAS project. Aceh is on the tip of Sumatera Island in Indonesia. The LYNAS Project is on the east side of Peninsular Malaysia. These two are separated by the Straits of Malacca & the mighty Titiwangsa range, house of the inactive volcano system.

Aceh has experienced massive earthquakes. Once a 9.1 on Richter scale in 2004, which caused a tsunami that took 220,000 lives. Another one, 8.7 on Richter scale happened just recently.

The coast where the LYNAS plant is safe... calm & steady or so they said.

Yet, the recent earthquake that hit Aceh recently, can also be felt by the east of Peninsular Malaysia... a place that we think is so far away from the earthquake centre.

The people who supports LYNAS Project, a 'rare earth' processing plant say that it is safe. There will be no radiation, no contamination... etc etc... It will be responsibly, carefully & systematically managed. There is no reason for us to be worry.

But, that's what Japan thought of their nuclear plant as well... until the tsunami hit them on the fateful 11-March-2011.

We think, we are safe from natural disaster. We are not in the active volcano range, far from the danger of the tectonic plates. No earthquake, no volcanic activity, minimal possibility of tsunami.

Has this made us cocky? Nature has been kind to us, therefore we want to push it so just we can see how much kinder it can be?

The tremor felt by east of Peninsular Malaysia could become stronger. When it does, is the LYNAS plant prepared for it? Have we not learned from what happened to Japan?

And we are not Japan... I truly admire the courage, strength, discipline, responsibility of the Japanese when faced with adversity. They are like the Phoenix... they can rise from the ashes, stronger.

I do not want to imagine the worst case scenario, but I do hope people who agreed to go forward with the LYNAS project have a plan & a few back up plans when the worst case scenario happened. If not, all of us, the citizens of Malaysia, citizens of the neighbouring countries & citizens of the world will blame the government of Malaysia for not stopping this project, for not listening when Malaysians said we do not want to have a radioactive plant in our country... for being stubborn and for blending this ingredient for disaster into our lives.

You will be owing us so much when the worst case scenario happened because we have told you so!

KL Flash Flood

I got through this flash flood experience with mixed feelings.

Worry, nervous, cautious, alert and... excitement (somehow... hihihiiii...) But after it was all over, the one thing that I was definitely feeling was tiredness.

Cleaning the thick, stubborn, slippery mud was not an easy job even for a few people.

It was raining very heavily that day. The water rose so fast to knee deep in about 5 minutes. It was scary... seriously. It was like a small tsunami.

The river must have risen about 10 feet.

The day after... compare the river level.
An interesting 'friend' I found once the flood decreased.

My home was quite badly affected by this flash flood. But some others experienced worst.

I pray that this will not happen again. As much as I love the rain, I get nervous if there is no sign of the heavy rain slowing down after an hour.

Nature is something that we do not want to mess with.

Menyahut Seruan Rukunegara...

Yang ke-5 : KESOPANAN DAN KESUSILAAN

* In Malay
*****

Ngeee...

Usia dah semakinnnn meningkat... Masa untuk memperbaiki diri... Walaupun sepatutnya dah mula sejak dulu lagi, tapi rasanya sekarang masih belum terlambat.

Terbaca sketsa dibawah sewaktu menghabiskan masa di Facebook...

Source: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=194956643930576&set=a.115609218531986.22414.103099216449653&type=3&theater

Marilah kita sama- sama!

Doakan saya ye! Terima kasih! Sayanggggg you all!

An Adventure...

I had an amazing experience last weekend. An experience that made me understand more about family, love, sacrifices and the people around me...

Most importantly it was an experience that made me understand a little bit more about myself...

It was an experience that taught me about the importance of making a fast, calculated decision and sticking to it when I know that it's obviously the right thing to do and act on it.

It was an experience that taught me that no matter how strong you are, sometimes you just can't do it alone. Sometimes, you need a helping hand. Family & friends... they are great helping hands.

It was an experience that taught me something about modern medicine and traditional ones :)

It was an experience that showed me what a BIG fan of Gilbert Blythe fan I am... ngeeee...

It was an experience that taught me the importance of faith & how strong deep faith can keep you calm & strong when presented with a bad situation. 'Beriman kepada Qada' & Qadar'... believe in that.

Alhamdulillah!

2 days of exciting adventures... A real life test. I'm glad, this round I passed.

I never realize I don't have to be going into the wild to get my adventures. This round, I get my adventures in real life.

After all, the greatest adventure in life is life itself... isn't it?

Some photos of the blue skies that accompanied along the way of my adventures. Loved it!

A bit of editing done of photos, using picnik.com

One 'boulder' lifted... for now. Stay strong everyone!

Mode: Getting Away

Urgghhhhh... It feels like it has been forever since I last spent time near nature... I've spent so much time in this urban jungle. I need a break...

In my mind I'm seeing... waterfalls... clear white water flowing smoothly in the river, the green hills... big trees... the big blue ocean... clear starry night skies...

In my mind I'm hearing... clear white water splashing & hitting the rocks, waves crashing onto the beach, birds chirping, busy crickets in the evening... heavy rain during a peaceful evening...

In my mind I'm feeling... the cold refreshing river, the warm ocean, rain on my skin, cool wind brushing my face...

Aahhh... so relaxing...

Right now, I'm wishing... I'm sitting by the riverside in Guilin, doing nothing... or at the hilltop in Longji overlooking the green paddyfields, or dipping in the ocean in Hawaii, or camping in Alaska, or watching aurora in Greenland, or sleeping under the coconut tree in Perhentian Island, or going for a hike in Adirodack... orrrrrr... braving the icy cold clear white water in the river near my grandma's house! OMG! I am missing that river so much! Loving it!

I truly need a getaway... hmmm...

Some pics treat... Just so you feel what I'm feeling...

All pics borrowed from all over the internet...

HALAL in Malaysia

To be frank, I'm upset... maybe not upset... I think I am now angry when it comes to talking about Halal in Malaysia. Just today, I receive a list of restaurants in Malaysia that are not Halal certified or their Halal certification has been revoked.

I won't be angry if Malaysia is not a so called 'Islamic' country. Come on... the truth is, we are not an Islamic country. We are only a country with majority Muslim and Islam is the official religion. We can't say we are Islamic country yet when a lot of things done in Malaysia are not aligned with Islam.

I won't be angry if the listing is made public and easily accessible. You know... list them in the newspaper (online or hardcopy), announce during primetime news. Let the whole Malaysia know. But not... it's up to individual initiative to find out.

How can I not be angry when I found out last month (if not mistaken) that none of the kopitiam in Selangor is halal. None. I believe, most of us Muslim only knew about this after we had enjoyed a meal or two (or more)  at those outlets --> http://www.informasikini.com/tag/kopitiam-di-selangor-tak-halal/

And in the list that I received today, one of the sausage used in 'Old Town White Coffee' menu is not halal certified.I've eaten at 'Old Town White Coffee'... once... but still... *Sigh*

Did you notice that a lot of restaurants and food courts using 'Halal Asia Pacific' certification, but when I search the Halal Certification Body list by JAKIM, 'Halal Asia Pacific' is not in the list. --> http://www.halal.gov.my/v3/index.php/ms/senarai-badan-islam-yang-diiktiraf

Marah tak, marah tak? I feel like those outlets are trying to trick Muslim consumers.

Or, the Muslim consumers don't care enough.

We are the majority. We should have a more strict rules and enforcement right?

But, NOT!

Marah kan? Argh!

I'm not asking for ALL food outlets to be halal. We are a multi-racial country, multi- religion... So, I understand. We can't force all outlets to be halal.

I'm only asking for those HALAL outlets to be completely HALAL! That's all.

Let's be honest. I'm not one of the person who keeps on updating herself with the latest & updated information from JAKIM. Most of the times, I just trust the halal certificate that they hang on the wall. If I can't trust that, means living in Malaysia is the same as living in a non- Islamic country. Right?

Sometime I feel it's easier to eat in a non- Islamic country. I can easily differentiate the Halal & non- Halal. The line is clearer.

I like the food court in Singapore. They clearly separate the food court betwen halal & non- halal. They even separate the plates & cutleries. I enjoyed the food there more confidently. One time I went to a sushi place in Singapore, the waitress there, who were a non-muslim informed me upfront that their restaurant is not halal even though they don't serve pork. I'm highly grateful to her.

You see... they are more sensitive than Malaysia... and Malaysia is a majority Muslim country.

So, what is it that I should suggest today? All talk & complain & no suggestion would make me a very lame blogger :P

My suggestions:

1. Education. To all Muslims & non-Muslims. Some of us know, but close one eye... some of us, really don't know... some of use don't care. We can't blame the non- Muslims if we haven't educate them about Halal. But, some of my non-Muslims friends really understand the concept of Halal. When I was in Singapore, my dear friend was the one who helped me to identify the foods & restaurants that I can or cannot eat or go to. Thank you Uncle Sam -XOXO-
To us Muslims, if we don't know, learn... take interest. But, if after we already knew but then close an eye or or pretend that we still don't know or just don't care... Then, what can I say?

2. Openly announce the halal & non- halal status. It makes consumers life easier.

3. Make the information easily accessible. Which restaurant is halal. Which food court we cannot go to. Which additive or coloring we can't consume. Which brush we're not suppose to use. Just create a 'halal.gov.my' page on Facebook. We can all click 'Like'. Easy to update the whole world like this ya? If tourism can have a millions ringgit page... halal page should get more budget allocation. This is more important right? (pssst... pssst... is there already a page, but I don't know about it? I don't think so... I searched... there's a link, but no page..)

4. All restaurants & food outlets to clearly indicate their halal or non-halal status. Green halal sticker & Red non- halal sticker to be sticked at their entrance. This is important so that we don't feel like they are trying to trick us.

Raise your hands if you agree with me. Both hands please :)

What else? Any other suggestion?

Speechless on halal, signing out. Eat well everyone!

Happy fasting! Happy break fasting! Happy Terawikh!

Selamat menambah ibadah di bulan Ramadhan!

Finding words...

As always... when work occupied most areas of my brain, the writer side of me decide to back- off. There are so many things to write about... the ideas are all flying around my head... They are all jumbled around... But cluttered brain = cluttered word.... So, I decided to not say anything :)

I'm hoping to post a happy experience sometime this month. Just wait for it.

There are a lot of not so happy things going on around us. I just wish people will just think clearer, be nicer and always remember that this life is only a preparation for the next one...

I wish all the best to all of us... be good!

Blog, Life & Brain :)

and of course 'Laksamana Sunan'... heheheheeee...

Huh... I didn’t post anything in March... I can’t believe it. Can you? I remember having so many ideas... but apparently I didn’t blog them. Weird...

But you know what is even weirder? I wasn’t too busy in March, if compared to other months. This kind of made me wonder about one thing... Does my brain work better when I’m not idle? How about your brain?

I got a new comment on my post ‘Falling in Love with Laksamana Sunan’... again. He’s such a hottie... heheheee... I think that post is the one getting most comments. This time I got a reminder that the 4th book is coming out. ‘Cinta Sufi’... wah sounds so pure... to anonymous, thanks for the reminder. I definitely won’t miss a date with Saifuddin *wink*

Marilah kita berkejaran ke Kinokuniya... gathering kat situ nak???

How are you guys doing? I honestly hope that all of you out there live happily, safely, successfully & blissfully. So many things had happened in our country and in our world. Both good and bad. But the bad ones are really bad. I kind of get scared reading the newspapers. But I can’t not read them. It’s like being tortured reading the news. Crimes are getting worse each day... Please be careful out there ok!

Nature’s behaviour is also becoming truly unpredictable. Storms, hurricane, floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, heat waves... I believe it all happened because of us, human species. Who else?

Of all the species on earth, human is the worst. Seems like human brain has lost its functions *sigh*

But, human species is also the ones working on making this world a better place.

I shouldn’t simply say bad things about my species...

So you guys, take care ok. Life isn’t always good... there will always be ups and downs. Whatever happens, keep the faith... Remember, there is always hope and ALLAH is never unfair.

See you guys again in my next post. Take really good care ok!
*kiss kiss*

When boredom strikes...

If you think that boredom can only strike when you have nothing to do, well I can tell you that is not true. You cannot convince me otherwise because I am the living proof! Muahahahhaaaa...

I have a lot of things to do. A lot! But unfortunately, when my brain tuned to the 'i'm so bored' channel, I do everything other than the things that I'm suppose to do.

OMG! It's a dangerous sickness this boredom... and I hope I will be cured by tomorrow morning :)

So what did I do during my boredom?

I redesigned my blog... I tried a few cute free templates on the internet... I changed this, I changed that, I changed this again,  then I changed that again... in the end, the only thing I changed was the picture on top... but still, I hope you like it even though I think it's not really suitable. The picture was shot by me & I call it 'Misty'...

I'm still a little bored while writing this and I think you can sense it...

So, I better stop now...

Unwinding...

2nd big milestone achieved... not error free, but without major issue. My deepest gratitude to ALLAH for all his help & guidance and to my dearest mom for her continous prayer. Also a big thank you for my Korean counterpart for their great cooperation and teamwork and to my team leader & teammates for all your support.

After 2 weeks of a somehow stressful period, I finally get some time to calm down, before the next chaotic events started. Which will be soon... But time flies so fast, that period will also past so quickly. All I need to do is to do my best, persevere and focus. Keep my course on the objective. I just hope I'll get to my target.

I've been unwinding yesterday & today... I wish I have more time to relax, but no... that time will come muchhhhh later... I keep telling myself, focus... focus... because it is so hard to focus when I'm hit with tiredness...

However, in my busy schedule I will always try to find time to update my blog for my left & right brain need to be balanced :)

Have a nice life y'all. Remember, if you're in stress, take a break!
